Shaftesbury is known internationally by the picture of “Gold Hill” which represents a beautiful village. Used by “Hovis” and many films. The Heritage magazine (Realm magazine) says Shaftesbury is an essential town to visit in Britain.
Beautifully positioned at the head of the Fal estuary, the estate commands panoramic views over the area and has extensive park and woodland walks beside the river.
The coastal grasslands and heathland are rich with wild flowers and provide open access for miles of walking. Seals are a common sight and guillemot, razorbill, fulmar and cormorant breed on the cliffs.
Daytime visitors all year round can explore the site, learn how it was the life's work of one remarkable woman (Rowena Cade) and experience for themselves the magic that is the Minack.
Enjoy miles of woodland walks and open glades. As you explore look out for peacocks, terns and visiting waders and wild fowl.
